School is in session. But that doesn’t mean the shopping season is over. As students settle into a new school year, many are rushing to fill last-minute needs in supplies or furniture or exchanging products. Some still have procrastinated until now and are rushing to scoop up sales and what’s left in store. If you find yourself in one of these categories, you’ll appreciate this list of this year’s top must-have products.
University living
Moving away from home for the first time can be exciting and nerve-wracking. The transition from your childhood bedroom to sharing a dorm or an apartment with other students can be difficult.
To help students embrace a more independent lifestyle, Staples Canada has introduced a line of products from its Student Living Centre that caters to students living on or off-campus. Products, such as functional furniture for small spaces, necessary kitchen appliances, and cleaning supplies can be found in-store and online to help students feel more at home. For more information on the Student Living Centre, visit staples.ca/studentliving.
Top trends of the season
Each year, Staples releases its 2018 Back-to-School Lookbook, which includes the season’s hottest products. Popular must-haves include sequin and iridescent backpacks, sparkly lunch bags, and glittery school accessories. Patterns and textures are also a favorite among students with denim backpacks and pencil case holders, other items with geometric and chevron shapes, and foodprint backpacks and accessories. See Staples Canada’s lookbook for more information on this year’s top trends.
Windows computers for every budget
There are so many options out there when choosing a personal computer that is right for you. Luckily, Staples and Microsoft have partnered together to curate an assortment of A+ School Ready devices that satisfy your needs and budgets this year.
If you are looking for a budget-friendly computer with long battery life and preloaded with Windows 10 to help you do your schoolwork easily, then HP Stream 14 or the ASUS W202 are the best options. However, if you are looking for a computer for more intensive things like photo, video editing, or gaming, then ASUS Zenbook UX430 is better. This computer has a 7th Generation Core-13 processor, Intel HD graphics, 128GB SSD for storage, and Office 365 subscription, which gets you your favorite Microsoft Office apps. See Staples Canada’s lookbook for more information on the computers from the A+ School Ready Windows Collection.
Win the latest back-to-school essentials!
As part of Staples Canada and Microsoft’s A+ School Ready campaign, both organizations are hosting a contest for students to win one of 30 A+ School Ready Ultimate Lockers, which includes prizes, such as a laptop from the latest Windows collection, gear from Adidas, Ray-Ban and Urban Outfitters as well as A+ School Ready prize packs.
To enter the contest, students must answer an online pop quiz to determine what type of student they are: The Achiever, The Athlete, The Creator, or The Socialite. To qualify, students must fill out the five-question personality test online at staples.ca/schoolready by September 14. There’s still time!

Bonus: While you’re shopping for your teenager, the little ones are bound to feel jealous. Why not a gift for them too? Our favorite app of 2022 is Novel Effect, the only kid’s app that combines children’s storybooks and robust speech recognition. The result plays interactive music and sound effects that respond as you read aloud from your print book during your regular storytime routine.
