As a new mom, it’s not big secret that you are going through big changes in your life. Perhaps the biggest change that you will experience is that you are going to be spending a lot more time at home than you did previously. I mean a LOT more time.
Even once you’ve gone back to work, you’re going to be almost always shooting straight home as soon as you can, because baby needs you, and anyways, you want to be with baby as much as possible. So home is where the heart is, especially during the first precious year of baby’s life.
It’s not to point fingers or anything like that, but many new mom’s all of a sudden realize that that place they call home is really not all that nice after baby arrives. Not only does the nesting instinct kick in demanding a better space, you also tend to come to the realization that you really weren’t paying that much attention to your living space before, because you weren’t relying on it so much. Many of us had it as a place to sleep and shower and park and store our clothes, and this is perfectly acceptable. Except for with motherhood, things change abruptly.
The place will be receiving visits like it never did before back in the day. It’s time to hit that furniture store. You can go to budget places and even buy second-hand if you want (but with lots of caution of course and make sure it’s STERILIZED before coming into your house), or you can go high-end and spend fifteen grand or more on furniture in a single day, but you’re going to have to do something. Make sure your visitors have somewhere COMFORTABLE to sit. People will come out of the woodwork to see baby, and you’re going to want them to. Be prepared.
Even more important than the visitors will be your own experience at home. Make sure you’rew well stocked with books and/or ebooks. Make sure your kitchen utensils are up to date (one quick and cheap Ikea run usually covers this).
Your free time when you have baby isn’t really 100% free. Some of the best activities in your down time are going to be reading and watching movies etc. Get a good TV to avoid eye-strain. This Panasonic 4K TV line will be a great place to start TV shopping. Avoid eyestrain; get something good.
Above all, remember that this is a beautiful time in your life, and you are improving yourself and your surroundings, despite how stressed you may feel at times.
